What Happens During a Root Canal?
Dr. Rodriguez and our compassionate team will follow these steps when performing a root canal:
- We will deliver local anesthesia to numb your mouth as well as dental sedation (if necessary) to help you relax while in the treatment chair.
- We will isolate the tooth with a latex dental dam so that moisture does not reach the affected tooth or interfere with the procedure.
- Dr. Rodriguez will make a small opening in the crown of the tooth so that he can properly access the pulp and infected tissues. He will clear out damaged portions as well as the pulp – the central location that consists of nerves and blood vessels.
- After sterilizing the interior of the tooth, he will fill it with gutta-percha, a biocompatible solution that replaces the pulp and assists in helping the tooth maintain its structure.
- Once the tooth is filled, we will take impressions and have a customized dental crown crafted in-house to properly protect the area over time.
