We will also take scans and images to measure your jawbone density to verify whether it’s strong and healthy enough to support this option. Sometimes, an additional bone graft procedure is required to bulk it up before you can continue with your treatment.

Dental Implant Surgery

At our practice in Orlando, Dr. Schackenberg has a decade of experience and has completed the necessary training to provide each step of the process in the office, including oral surgery. He’ll begin your procedure by applying a local anesthetic to numb the area, and also offers two options for sedation that can help you remain calm and comfortable throughout your procedure.

First, he’ll make a small incision in your gums and place the support post for your new tooth. Then, he’ll carefully suture your connective tissues closed and place a protective cap over the top of the pole that sits above your gumline.

Dental Implant Osseointegration & Abutment

It can take three to six months to recover after your surgery because that’s about how long it takes your mouth to generate enough new bone growth to fuse with the biocompatible rod. Then, you’ll need a second procedure to place the abutment, or connector piece, that will eventually anchor the tooth-shaped portion of your implant.

Then, we’ll make digital impressions of your teeth, gums, and bite alignment and send it to our in-house dental laboratory to begin designing your dental crown, or other appropriate restoration.  

Delivery of Dental Implant Restoration(s)

Our team uses local and in-house labs to provide everything from your dental implant abutment to the final tooth-shaped cap that will be cemented to it. Unlike most providers who rely on outside laboratories, we can create these prosthetics in the office to reduce your wait time.

Your new tooth is made from durable, customizable ceramic that can be color-matched to your natural enamel for seamless results. Once it’s finalized, we’ll schedule you to try it on to verify that it fits well and that your bite is comfortable. If everything checks out, we will cement it in place before sending your home with your recently rebuilt smile!
